White and black Charcoal pencils

For this project we had to listen to a piece of music and create some kind of artwork that goes with it. After listening to the music I immediately knew that I wanted to use dark colors, then as I kept listening a rainstorm came to mind. I chose to use white paper and charcoal pencils to create my drawing. I first drew black clouds at the top of the page and black land at the bottom of the page. Then I went back and forth with the white and black pencils to make the rain. After that I used a normal wooden pencil to make the lightning, and when drawing the little girl I used the black charcoal to color her in.
After I sketched the storm I realized I wanted to add something more, so I drew an outline of a small girl at the bottom of the page pointing off into the distance. Once I was close to almost done with my final draft I decided to add a white outline to the lighting that strikes at the middle of the page to make it pop more. After finishing that last step I felt like my project was complete.

Colored pencils and gel pens
Artist Statement
This project we had to create something based off of a surrealism style. There are many different styles to choose from like changing the scale of objects or transform one object into another. I chose to turn the accepted order of things upside down. I came up with the idea to switch the order of fish and people, so I took the fish out of their tank and put people inside it. I started out with drawing a normal living room with a couch, a coffee table, the fish tank on a table and some artwork on the wall. Then I added some things in the living room that would be in a fish tank like a rock instead of a side table, and seaweed beside the couch. The people in the fish tank only have a piece of seaweed in there since fish don’t have much in the tank. Then I put the fish on the couch as if it was a person sitting there. The medium I used was colored pencils and gel pens on a regular sized paper.

Watercolors and ink
Artist Statement (Printmaking)
For this project we first had to start out with a sketch which would later turn into a stamp. For my sketch, I decided to do a butterfly because we had to do something that connected to nature. After my sketch was complete I used transfer paper to copy my sketch over to the linoleum. Once that was done I carved out my butterfly and carved a striped background around the butterfly. Then it was time to test print, and for that we used green paint to fully cover the linoleum and took a sheet of paper and pressed it over until we felt like the paint was fully onto the paper. After I was happy with my test print it was time for the real thing, so I repeated the steps from the test print but instead of the green paint we used the black ink paint on watercolor paper. After the butterfly was printed on watercolor paper it had to dry for twenty-four hours. After the twenty-four hours I used the watercolor paint the color the butterfly. I made it very colorful and made sure all of the colors were very pigmented. After I finished I was happy with the outcome, and so far this has been my favorite project.

For this project, we had to eventually get an original picture to print onto cloth, wood, a shell, etc. To start with, you have to chose an original picture and for that I picked one of my dog. Once I had the picture, I had to make it black and white and then the library printed them out. After I got my picture back we had to go into the dark room to get the cloth for our picture, and once we cut a piece we had to put it under our shirt and go outside. When we were outside we put our cloth on the floor, then the picture on top, and lastly a piece of glass to prevent it from moving. After waiting three minutes we took everything inside and then rinsed the cloth with water and let it dry. Then we got to design our piece, so I chose to paint a canvas for a bright background then I cut the cloth so it was just showing the dog. After that I sowed the cloth onto the canvas. This project took around three weeks to complete and I used the cloth, the sun, canvas, paint and the sowing things to create my final piece.
To start this project we had to use a thin canvas like board as our background. First we had to pick two colors of paint plus black or white to mix for the board. I decided to mix pink, orange, and white, so once I picked the colors we poured them all into a cup and put it upside down on the board. After waiting a minute you pick up the cup and let the paint pour out and wait a few minutes for any more cells to come through. Then you tilt the board to make sure the paint fully covers it and then the board has to dry. The next day we had to decide what we were going to add to the board and for that I took a piece of paper and cut it the size of the board. Then I drew a dear head on the paper and cut it out, after that I taped the cut out onto the board and painted over it with white paint. I let it dry and then pealed off the paper to finish the project.
For this project we were using chalk pastels to create an O'keefe inspired piece. First we had to pick a flower from the pictures provided and then make a small view finder. Once we had a flower we used the view finder to pick a part of the flower to draw on big paper. I chose a pink flower and put my view finder in the middle of the flower and half of it was visible. I got the big paper and used my pencil to trace an outline and after that I used the chalk pastels to color in my flower. Along with that I used white to highlight part of the flower and I used pointillism, blending, drawing, and side stroke when using the chalk. I used different shades of pink and yellow along with white for the flower and the project took over a week to complete.
